First-of-its-kind Vietnam Sourcing Report: Lacquerware offers buyers industry insight and quality export suppliers
Manufacturers build on foundation of traditional techniques to move up-market with contemporary designs of lacquered bowls, plates, trays, boxes, vases, paintings and screens

Ho Chi Minh City, Sept. 25, 2008 – The first-ever Vietnam Sourcing Report: Lacquerware (http://www.ChinaSourcingReports.com/lacquerware) shows that Vietnam manufacturers are building on their solid foundation of traditional designs and techniques to move up-market with contemporary new styles.

Products offered for export by makers profiled in the Vietnam Sourcing Report include lacquered bowls, plates, trays, boxes and vases as well as decorative paintings and screens.

"Buyers are finding that Vietnam offers a competitive alternative - and often a profitable complementary supply base - to China sourcing," said Alexander Boome, program director of the non-profit Kearny Alliance (http://www.kearnyalliance.org), which produced the report in partnership with Global Sources (http://www.globalsources.com).

"Demand for Vietnam-made products is increasing, mainly due to their craftsmanship and design. With more than 2,000 craft villages, Vietnam is becoming a key supply hub in Asia, with exports of handcrafted products in 2007 of $740 million, up by 17 percent over 2006."

The Kearny Alliance team visited each profiled supplier in person to compile the report, which offers details about supplier capability, and production, price and market forecasts for Vietnam’s lacquerware industry. It features profiles of 30 manufacturers, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for over 120 popular export products.

Of lacquerware makers surveyed for the report:

  • 88 percent anticipate growth in export sales;
  • 43 percent plan to target the EU market; and
  • 82 percent expect they will need to raise prices.
To help keep price hikes to a minimum, makers plan to focus on the use of indigenous materials, including bamboo and wood to which lacquer resin can be applied.

Export assistance program provides boost to developing economies in Asia
The Vietnam Sourcing Report: Lacquerware aims to help buyers source from quality suppliers in developing Asia to advance the Kearny Alliance's mission of 'Aid through Trade'.

"The reports are professional business-to-business tools, written to connect sourcing professionals with quality suppliers so they can do business more profitably," Boome said. "So, while our aim is to create lasting jobs in developing Asia, our approach is that of a social entrepreneur in support of trade."

Developing Country Sourcing Reports may be purchased and downloaded immediately at: The Vietnam Sourcing Report: Indoor & Outdoor Furniture and Indonesia: Footwear are the next reports scheduled for publication.

Philippine Fashion Jewelry Exporters Focus on Design and Material Innovation, Emphasize Eco-friendly Raw Materials
Manufacturers in Cebu and Luzon Use More Indigenous Materials for Bangles, Earrings, Necklaces and Other Fashion Accessories to Export Worldwide

MANILA, June 12, 2008 – The just-released Philippines Sourcing Report: Fashion Jewelry (http://www.ChinaSourcingReports.com/fashionjewelry) shows that Philippine manufacturers are focusing on unique designs and the creative use of natural materials to differentiate their fashion jewelry from competitors and generate more export orders.

The sourcing report provides production, price and market forecasts for the fashion jewelry industry in the Philippines. It features profiles of 28 manufacturers, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for over 100 popular export products, including bangles, earrings and necklaces. The report also highlights the latest trends in product design and material application.

“Survey results indicate that more than two-thirds of Philippine suppliers will focus on designs incorporating indigenous materials,” said Alexander Boome, program director of the non-profit Kearny Alliance (http://www.kearnyalliance.org), which produced the report with the support of Global Sources (http://www.globalsources.com).

Other survey results in the Philippines Sourcing Report: Fashion Jewelry show that:
    * 61 percent of suppliers anticipate export growth
    * 53 percent plan to target the EU market; and
    * 67 percent expect price increases

“To bring down costs, makers are incorporating readily available materials – such as cornhusks, eggshells and aluminum from recycled soft drink cans –and developing inventive ways of using them in new designs,” Boome said.

“Buyers will appreciate the alternative sourcing opportunities this report offers. Clearly, by sourcing from experienced suppliers in Southeast Asia, buyers can offer their customers a wider selection of distinctive handmade products, not available from mass-market producers.”

Free Export Assistance Program Provides Boost to Developing Economies
The Philippines Sourcing Report: Fashion Jewelry is a component of the Kearny Alliance’s Developing Country Export Assistance Program.

Featured suppliers in the Developing Country Sourcing Reports also have websites on Global Sources Online (http://www.globalsources.com). This gives buyers free access to manufacturers’ information, including complete contact details for easy inquiry.

“The Export Assistance Program is designed to help exporters export more to volume buyers worldwide,” Boome said. “With this Program, we hope to create more jobs and lasting prosperity.”

Developing Country Sourcing Reports available for sale are Philippines: Christmas décor and Fashion Jewelry, as well as Indonesia: Indoor & outdoor furniture. The Vietnam Sourcing Report: Lacquerware will be available soon.

Strong Buyer Interest in Indonesian Natural Products Exhibited at China Sourcing Fairs: Fashion Accessories and Gifts & Home Products

Non-Profit Export Service Centre Showcases One-of-a-Kind Handcrafted Home Décor, Sandals with Recycled Tires for Soles, and New Eco-Friendly ‘Ship & Show’ Bamboo Packaging System at Global Sources Fairs at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, April 28, 2008 – Indonesia’s non-profit Export Service Centre (http://www.ExportServiceCentre.com) reports strong buyer interest for its new lines of eco-friendly fashion accessories and home décor at its large booths at the China Sourcing Fairs: Fashion Accessories and Gifts & Home Products (http://www.chinasourcingfairs.com) in Hong Kong April 12-15 and 20-23, respectively.

Stunning exhibits of handcrafted leather and natural fiber handbags, sandals with recycled motorcycle tires for soles, museum-quality handcarved home décor and a tropical gazebo were highlights at the company’s booths at the Global Sources fairs at AsiaWorld-Expo.

“This was our best series of shows to date,” said Eugene Verspoor, general manager of the Export Service Centre. “By doubling the size of our booth and expanding our product scope from October, we’ve given the beautiful products from Indonesia the exposure they deserve.

“The Fairs have really helped us advance the Export Service Centre’s mission of ‘Aid through Trade’. Our aim is to create lasting jobs for local artisans through export development. So every order buyers’ place helps create employment for people in need.”
