Philippines’ home décor suppliers shift focus to upscale products, specialty markets
Philippines Sourcing Report: Home Decor offers quality buyers new, competitive suppliers of home furnishings, handicrafts, pottery and vases, plus insight into supply market chain
MANILA, August 25, 2011 – Philippines’ home décor suppliers are changing their production strategies by shifting their focus to upscale and specialty markets to compete with China’s mass produced low-end exports.
This is according to the
Philippines Sourcing Report: Home Decor, produced by the non-profit
Kearny Alliance with the support of Global Sources (NASDAQ: GSOL
http://www.globalsources.com).
The Report features profiles of 23 export manufacturers with verified manufacturing and production capacity, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for more than 125 best-sellers of photo frames, baskets, scented candles, wall mirrors, candle holders, plates, vases, wall-mounted décor, lamps and other tabletop décor. Among the interviewed suppliers, 75 percent of them plan to keep export quote the same to sustain competitiveness.
“Philippines’ home décor sector is being driven by the government and relevant trade associations’ efforts to encourage local exporters to move away from low-end manufacturing as a means to weather the industry’s challenges in term of price competition,” said Khiem Vu, manager of The Kearny Alliance’s Export Assistance Program.
“Although the shift can result in various increases in production costs, many suppliers interviewed for the Report are confident that this direction will make the Philippines a popular sourcing center for home décor among buyers from affluent markets such as the UAE, Kuwait, Russia, and other EU. Quality-conscious buyers are looking for high-end products with the most unique designs and the highest quality.”
Survey results outline target export markets, product and price trends, and capacity
In addition to industry overview and prices forecasts, the Report offers survey results from featured suppliers. High-level results show:
- 35 percent will target EU; 25 percent will focus the US;
- 25 percent plan to develop models with more decorative elements and designs;
- 65 percent expect to increase export sales by 10 percent; and
- 25 percent consider the price competition as the most critical concern facing the industry.
Total featured suppliers can produce up to 667,000 pieces a month. Product prices range from less than $1 for a simply-featured home furnishing up to more than $250 for a set of high-scale wall hanging decoration.
More sourcing opportunities for global buyers, more jobs created

As a result, suppliers can create more jobs for more people.
